Guidance Officer (GO)

The Guidance Officer (GO) 7-12:

  • provides guidance and counselling to students and their families
  • identifies factors that can be barriers to learning and development
  • plans or assists in planning individual support programs, and supports personnel, family, other specialists or professionals from other agencies depending on the issues to be resolved and the age of the student
  • assists with career planning
  • provides course information and subject selection
  • assists with QTAC, university/tertiary programs and study skills
  • provides personal and group counselling for students, families and staff
  • Case manages individual students
  • assists with assessment and reporting of students with special needs
  • provides behaviour management advice and planning to staff
  • connects students with external support services.
