The College became the first Gateway to Industry Health school in Queensland in 2020. The expansion into Vocational Education and Training, with a focus on the Health Industry, has been a major initiative for the College.
Training is vastly enhanced by the completion of the Medical Training Precinct in 2022. It supports the development of school students' knowledge and understanding of the varied roles available in the health workforce, and improves their access to learning and experiential opportunities in the Queensland's growing health sector.
The Medical Training Precinct features two health specialist classrooms, a hospital ward, GP office and reception area, as well as an ICU medical container donated by Canstruct International. The modular medical building was constructed in Townsville by Ausco, with several of our high achieving Year 10 to 12 Industrial Technology and Design students undertaking a site visit and work experience during the construction phase.
The purpose of the Precinct is to provide students of all ages with insight, access and connectivity to health-related careers through authentic learning opportunities. Student aspirations will be supported through quality training and connectivity with health industry partners to achieve post-schooling pathways.
